Objectives and Content

The aim of this course is that students should develop knowledge about the history of the Norwegian language as well as the background for the development of Norwegian Nynorsk and the role of language in Norwegian politics.

The students will also be familiarised with important differences between Bokmål and Nynorsk, as well as the main grammar rules of Norwegian Nynorsk.

The students will also learn how to express themselves in written Norwegian Nynorsk.

Required Previous Knowledge

Participants should have a proficiency in Norwegian language according to NOR-U2 / passed level 2 exam at a University level.

Access to the Course

The course is open for students who do not have Norwegian as their first language.

Compulsory Assignments and Attendance

Attendance is mandatory. Participants who are absent more than 25% of the time will not be permitted to take the exam.

Students will submit three written assignments during the course.

The compulsory requirements are valid for three semesters. This includes the semester when the lectures are given and the following two semesters.

Forms of Assessment

3 hours written exam.

Support materials are not permitted.

The course will be evaluated in line with the Department's policies and UiB's quality assurance system. The evaluation may be conducted in writing or as discussion with the responsible instructor.
