Course description

Objectives and Content

The course provides a more in-depth introduction to selected theoretical issues in second language acquisition than offered in the100-level NORAN courses. The course prepares students for writing master thesis in second language acquisition.

The course covers various aspects that fall under the broad scope second language acquisition research, and linguistic, pragmatic, sociolinguistic and didactic issues are included.

Learning Outcomes

After successfully completing this course, students will have

  • Knowledge of second language acquisition that enables them to critically evaluate and analyse central issues in L2 learning raised in the course
  • The ability to give well-founded advices in issues related second language learning

Compulsory Assignments and Attendance

A paper of approximately 5,000 words submitted on the deadline decided by the course administration.

It is compulsory to receive guidance when working on the paper.

Forms of Assessment

A paper of approximately 5,000 words submitted on the deadline decided by the course administration.

Oral exam.

The paper accounts for 60%, and the oral exam accounts for 40% of the final overall grade. The examinee must pass both the written and the oral section in order to pass the course.
