Objectives and Content

The course provides a thorough introduction to the pathology and diagnosis of somatic disease in adults, medical treatment and appropriate nutrition interventions. The aim is to give students sufficient knowledge of disease mechanisms and thereby enable them to give optimal, individual nutritional advice.

- capable of explaining normal functions and metabolic changes occurring as a consequence of disease


- capable of estimating nutritional needs in adult disease

- capable of giving adapted nutritional advice in cases of acute and chronic disease


- the ability to communicate and cooperate with different health professionals, patients and their relatives

Required Previous Knowledge

Bachelor's programme in human nutrition, NUCLI351 (UiB) and NUCLI352 (UiB)
