Objectives and Content

Pediatric dentistry comprises the part of dentistry aimed at the prevention and treatment of developmental disorders, trauma and diseases of the teeth and surrounding tissues in children and adolescents 0-18 years, including disabled and sick children. The pediatric dentistry course deals with skills and clinical competences among children and adolescents,

The skills course starts with groupwork and discussion on how to establish a good study environment in the discipline. The course includes learning of technical skills in decidous and permanent teeth. The course ends with a theoretical test with multiple choice questions. Students have to pass the test to be able to start their clinical service.  The students are informed of the result and of the correct answers to the questions immediately after the test.

Knowledge

The candidate has knowledge of the following techniques:

  • Caries therapy in the primary dentition
  • Caries therapy in the permanent dentition
  • Steel crown preparation
  • Fixation of traumatic teeth

Skills

The candidate manages the following skills

  • Caries therapy in the primary dentition
  • Caries therapy in the permanent dentition
  • Steel crown therapy
  • Fixation of traumatized teeth

General competence

The candidate has the required competence for treatment of dentition in children and adolescents.
