Im/material Knowledge

Postgraduate course

Course description

Supplementary semester information

This workshop is a progressional workshop for those working with clay and ceramics, so you do need some experience of the medium from before.

We will investigate different materialities and ingredients to develop our own clays and glazes in a practical and hands on workshop. This is a very experimental and self-driven workshop where you will share knowledge and enthusiasm for your shared explorations.

Using these new materialities we will take our responses and new knowledge into your existing practices, motivations and excitement. How do these new materials enrich your works - what new stories and meanings can be created? How can we as makers be more environmentally respectful in a resource and material consuming medium?

There is a compulsorary Research trip to Porsgrunn to the 1400grader residency at the Porsgrunn porcelain fabrikk - where we will be investigating on site materialities, material collecting and quarry site visits. Evaluation end week 16 with a presentation of the works and experiments made to the public.

Students with caring responsibilities or other life situations which would make participation difficult, take contact with student advicer Liv Heidi Ekre studieveileder.kmd@uib.no.
