Irregular, spring. This course has limited places available (normally under 10). With a high number of applicants will students in process technology and petroleum technology get priority.

Objectives and Content

The course will be conducted in collaboration with DNV GL. DNV GL is responsible for the technical content and implementation of the course. Central concepts in risk analysis are discussed. Methods for calculation and evaluation of risk will be discussed with reference to real cases. Consequences calculations of events in the oil and gas industry will be based worldwide DNV GL experience in this field.

Learning Outcomes

After the course PTEK251 the student will be able to:

- have knowledge of analysis and evaluation of risks

- have knowledge about the use of risk analysis as a decision tool

- be able to assess the needs for preparedness based on risk analysis

- be able to use simple methods and tools for risk assessment

- have knowledge of more advanced methods and tools for risk assessment

Forms of Assessment

The exam consist of a written 4 hour part (counts 70%) and a project report (counts 30%). Both parts must be passed to pass the exam as a whole. The written exam can be replaced by a oral exam if it is fewer than 10 students. It is only possible to submit the project report in a semester when the course is offered. The project report is valid for 3 semester. Letter marks. Examination support materials: Non-programmable calculator, according to model listed in faculty regulations.

Grading Scale

The grading scale used is A to F. Grade A is the highest passing grade in the grading scale, grade F is a fail.
