Course description
Objectives and Content
This course will give a brief outline of the main aspects of Norwegian culture and history from the Viking age until today. In the course we also discuss the relationship between historical experiences and the present by exploring contemporary cultural conceptions and representations of "Norwegianness".
Methodology and historiography are integrated parts of the course. It is designed for non-Norwegian students and primarily intended for exchange students. It can not be included as a specialization course within a Norwegian bachelors degree, only as an independent course.
The aim of this course is to give students insight into Norwegian culture and history from the Viking age until today.
Learning Outcomes
Knowledge
The student will achieve basic insight in Norwegian history and culture.
Qualifications
The student will have qualifications to discuss historical phenomena and cultural issues and draw own conclusions based on his/her analysis.
Competence
The student is able to present historical knowledge and cultural views and argue for own conclusions in written form.
