Course description

Objectives and Content

The infiltration anaesthesia course provides knowledge of local anaesthesia (infiltration anaesthesia) in the oro-maxillo facial area.

Learning Outcomes

Knowledge
Students will be able to explain

  • the pharmacology of the local anaesthesia preparations
  • local anaesthetics and their use
  • principles of local anaesthesia in the oral cavity based on anatomical and physiological limitations
  • general medical conditions in terms of risk assessment in relation to local anaesthetics

Skills
Students will be able to

  • display practical skills in the use of surface anaesthesia and infiltration anaesthesia in the oral cavity
  • be able to recognize and deal with general and local complications of local anaesthesia in the oral cavity

General competence:
Students will develop ethical attitudes, enabling them to take care of their patients according to health regulations and patient expectations.

Compulsory Assignments and Attendance

Clinical course consisting of to sessions (6 hours) is compulsory

All teaching is mandatory, except for lectures. The student is responsible for reporting absences, and unexcused absences are not allowed.¿In addition to the attendance requirements, the academic requirements must be met, both in terms of the quality of the work and sufficient practice¿

In this subject, mandatory activities are valid for two semesters.

Forms of Assessment

2 hour written test

When the assessment method in a subject is a `written test¿, two continuous tests will be arranged shortly for students without valid results. Students who have not achieved valid results after three attempts will be moved to lower classes. The three attempts that belong to each implementation of the subject are counted as one assessment attempt in accordance with UiB¿s regulations on studies §8-1 (1). Due to the short time between the regular and new test, complaints about grading will not be processed until the third attempt has been completed. If the third attempt is conducted as an oral test, the two previous written attempts will be the subject of the complaint process.
