Project description

Towards the end of the 1880’s, there was found gold in the area of Lykling, Bømlo. That started a gold rush and attracted people from all around the world. Soon the area was being mined. Today, every mine is closed down except one.  The gold was found in ores of quartz cutting gabbro. The gabbro is a part of the Lykling ophiolite complex. I will, through geochemical and geochronological analyses, try to date the occurrence of the gold, giving us a better understanding of the area.
