The Centre for Deep Sea Research is a part of the Department of Earth Science at the University of Bergen and is also strongly connected to the Department of Biological Sciences. The Centre comprises around 15 scientists in professor, associate professor and researcher positions, 5-10 post-doctoral researchers, 20 PhD students, 5 technical and administrative staff, and around 15 master students.

Together, our researchers cover a wide range of scientific expertise: We are geophysicists, petrologists, geochemists, geobiologists, paleontologists, microbiologists, bioinformaticians, marine biologists, and taxonomists. In the combination of our manifold backgrounds lies our main strength, which enables us to perform ground-breaking research that expands our knowledge of the deep sea and its resources.
