World diabetes day
World Diabetes Day (WDD) was created in 1991 by IDF and the World Health Organization in response to growing concerns about the escalating health threat posed by diabetes. World Diabetes Day became an official United Nations Day in 2006.
November 14th is the birthday of Canadian physician Frederick Banting, who together with Charles Best was central to the discovery of the insulin in 1922.
World Diabetes Day is a global campaign highlighted this day each year while the campaign lasts until next year's campaign with varying topics from year to year.
This year's international theme is women's health - in Norway, we focus on the heart.
