In the latest issue of Landscape Research, this article presents data from Wave 12 of the Norwegian Citizen Panel, collected in June 2018.

Xiaozi Liu et al. wanted to find out how citizens relate to changes in the landscape arising from economic development, population growth, and climate change, and how the potential negative effects can be mitigated. To answer these questions, they have mapped public landscape preferences and identified potential conflicts.

They found that pasture landscapes are the most favoured (55%), while densely planted spruce forests are the least favoured (8%). The contrast was particularly strong between eastern and western Norway, between men and women, and between young and old.
