Guest Lecture at the Department of Chemistry: What is LCA and how can it help in making sustainable choices in biorefinery?

Main content

Speaker: Femke Brouwer (MSc), Lecturer Environmental Sciences, Avans University of Applied Sciences, The Netherlands, Visiting researcher funded on the  Akademia program

Title:  What is LCA and how can it help in making sustainable choices in biorefinery?

Subject of the talk: By definition, life cycle assessment evaluates the environmental impacts of products, processes or services, through production, usage, and disposal (https://www.gdrc.org/uem/lca/lca-define.html).  Such evaluations are important for  when substituting renewable based resources for fossil fuels and for choosing the best the best ways of using the available resources. Life cycle analysis is thus be very useful for chemists and other researchers involved in renewable energy development.
