Peter Hacker, "The nature of consciousness"
Hacker will give two guest lectures at the Wittgenstein Archives in the Department of Philosophy in September: The first lecture is 1 September and bears the title "Philosophy and neuroscience" (see separate calendar entry), while on 2 September at 14:15 to 16:00 he will talk about "The nature of consciousness". Peter Hacker is Emeritus Research Fellow at St John's College, Oxford. He is regarded as one of the foremost experts on Wittgenstein and has published widely on Wittgenstein, philosophy of language and philosophy of mind. He is perhaps best known for his multi-volume analytical commentary (co-written with Gordon Baker) on Wittgenstein's Philosophical Investigations. In recent years he has been an important critic of cognitive neuro science.
