Cecilie Shou Andreassen

I have a master's degree in clinical psychology from UiB 2002, became specialist in clinical psychology in 2009, PhD in 2009 and gained professorial qualifications in 2015 both in clinical psychology and organizational psychology/HRM. In 2018, I also gained professorial competence in health sciences.

My work experience is broad and reaches from research, clinical and organizational psychology in both public and private sector. For 10 years I worked as an organizational consultant for Right Management, as well as 12 years of clinical health work with patients with addiction problems, both as a clinician and in various leader roles. I have been main union representative/leader for the Norwegian Psychological Association with responsibility for wage negotiations over a seven-year period. Since 2016, I have worked as a professor at the Department of Clinical Psychology since, and as visiting professor at Yale School of Medicine and the UCLA School of Medicine. For the last two years I have been on permission, engaged as psychology professor at the University of Stavanger where I have contributed to the establishment of a new bachelor's degree in psychology. At the UiS, I have also contributed as member to rector’s working group on the strategic area health and wellfare of the strategic plan 2021-2030.

At the university I have experienced both bad and authoritarian leadership as well as lack of transparency. I promise to contribute to more democratic and open processes as best I can. Generally, I will keep a critical eye on the board's work based on the values I believe the university must uphold;

  1. Democratic and open processes.
  2. Professional ownership of decisions.
  3. Confidence in the ability of the professional communities to take their own decisions concerning the best use of their funding.
  4. A value-based management that facilitates research and education.
  5. High ethical standards in all parts of the organization.

As far as possible the board should facilitate the employees can carrying out of the core activity of the university (research and education) and not contribute to the tendency to top management we in general see in the society.

As an organizational psychologist and former consultant, I believe that a university with highly specialized and dedicated researchers and lecturers is not suitable for this type of management. Similarly, I am skeptical of the further bureaucratization of universities that follows from the desire to control the direction and content of research.

During the rector's election campaign, it was revealed a lagging behind in terms of pay at the university. I want the board to correct this imbalance and contribute to our university being an attractive workplace. For example, the board could establish a committee that reviewed and documented in detail the factors contributing to the imbalance, so that corrective actions can be taken.

The latest news concerning the  ”practice portal” has shown that the board must emphasize a higher ethical standard.

Creative research and good education require a good psychosocial environment. Further, harassment, bullying and conflicts in the workplace require good professional handling. I myself, as a clinical psychologist, have experienced how a good professional environment has wanished, and people have gone into sick leave. In a board position, as far as possible I will work to ensure that every employee feels secure and experiences joy in their work.
