Candidate to the University Board - Group C

Magnus Svendsen Nerheim

Main content

As a UiB board member, I will work strategically towards

  • Increased collaboration across historical barriers within UiB; between scientific staff, administration, and students; between temporary and permanent; between international and Norwegian; between central-, faculty and department levels; etc. Excellence in education, research, dissemination, and innovation is created together and across all roles and organizational levels at the institution.
  • Recognizing recognize the required competencies, and further develop the role of the ‘administrative’ and ‘technical’ employees so all employees can utilize their time most efficiently towards the primary activity. Including but not limited to understanding the balance between standardization and flexibility, and addressing ‘wasted time’. The ABE reform (administrative ‘effectivity cuts’) does not make this work easier.
  • Ensuring that digitization provides increased quality, effectivity and a better experience for employees and students – and supports the primary activity. How will we exploit the digital shift we have experienced as part of the pandemic?
  • That UiB shall be steadfast on our role as an independent organization cultivating knowledge, find a balance between institutional autonomy and top-down national management, and ensure that UiB’s primary activity is strengthened by the ‘expectations of standardization’ in the HE-sector
  • Increasing the understanding of that excellence in education, research, dissemination and innovation is created in the collaborative efforts between experts in subjects, and experts in administration, digitization, technology, pedagogy etc.
  • Ensuring that UiB functions in a way that facilitates and reflects that we are a spearhead within climate and sustainability, related to globalization, travel, investments, digitization, and the physical and digital campus development.
  • Keeping the ‘great minds’, both scientific and technical/administrative staff – especially early career staff, through an increased investment in career development, salaries, and ensuring that UiB is an attractive long-term employer. Equality, gender balance and an inclusive work environment are key aspects.
  • transparency and co-determination in decision making at UiB. Everyone cannot always express their opinions about everything, but employees and students should be represented in decisions regarding them.

Why vote for me?

I have been affiliated with UiB since 2008 and has since 2014 worked at both the department level and centrally at UiB. I currently work with developing digital tools and services in UiB Learning Lab. The role as a board member at UiB requires a holistic view, knowledge of what goes on in the width of UiB’s work – and a nose for what goes on in the HE-sector and internally at UiB. As part of my ongoing work at the UiB Learning Lab, I work with all parts of the organization and has gotten to know the breath of subjects UiB provides. I also work closely with the HE-sector.

I am motivated to put in the hard work necessary to get the overview required to make wise decisions. I am unafraid, dare to ask the hard questions and dig into challenging issues, and do not refrain from expressing my opinion – even if it could be considered controversial or unpopular. My mission as a board member at UiB is to actively contribute to constructive, pragmatic or principle-based discussions for the advancement of UiB.

Vote for me if you want an unafraid representative that is prepared and dares to partake in the discussion, bring up issues and has the will to accomplish actual changes.

Go vote!
