Candidate to the University Board - Group C

Berit Storaker

Main content

I have been asked to run as a candidate for the university board, and I am making myself available.

My education is purely administrative, and I have a work background from the private sector before I started in the public sector at UiB. I started at the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry in the summer of 2000, where the work area was mainly a study exam consultant for the doctor and dental education. From 2009 I was offered a position in economics and exam work at Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Science at the Department of Geosciences. Centralization to the faculty came in the autumn of 2017 and I became part of the central unit in economics as an operating economist until 2021. Then under the auspices of BOTT as a new restructuring with new systems and transfer of personnel from the Faculty to central Economics by salary from 2021. This amounts to 20 years of work experience for UiB.

My experience: I have been part of some restructuring and changes in these 20 years of both decentralized and centralized tasks. The pendulum has then swung back and forth where tasks should lie and at what level. I have a great commitment to our workplaces and work situations. This applies both physically and mentally. This commitment led me to become deputy leader for 50% position for 6 years as a union representative at NTL. During my time as a union representative for NTL, I have participated in steering groups, negotiating committees, IA, ARK to name a few. I have always been committed to taken care of and representing employees as best as possible. The years as a union representative and employee have given me valuable experience and an overview of our organization.

Why am I running for election?

I believe that group C are important for UiB and I like to think about our organization as collectively. It is all "us" and not they and we who make up the organization UiB. We all depend on each other for the organization to achieve its strategic goals. Without us, UiB will not succeed.

A bureaucrat and "paper mover" can also find pride in the fact that scientists achieve good results and get a breakthrough for their applications and projects. I feel "ownership" of being a part of it all, and I am relatively confident that technicians also feel pride when projects the researcher has succeeded. The administrative and technical group may be underestimated as important contributors, but we have an important key role in "smearing" the organization. As technical and administrative personnel, we have great expertise, and our work contributes so that UiB achieve its goals. UiB is a great workplace and together we can even be better. My wish is to contribute to this.

Should I be elected, my intention and desire are to achieve even better interaction at UiB and be a clear voice for group C. Accompanied with constant demands for restructuring, digitization and new systems, our group is especially challenged.

As a board member for the university board, my wish is to influence where it is possible so that the cooperation and interests of Group C are seen and heard. By challenging myself and running for election, I hope to have an opportunity to contribute to this by representing our group.
