Who are the warring parties in Yemen and what are their objectives? What are the prospects for a lasting peace in a united Yemen?

The spring of 2015 saw the onset of the Yemeni civil war that soon developed into a regional war involving neighbouring Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.
Over the four years that have passed, the war has caused the loss of lives, destruction of cities, agricultural land and infrastructure and a severe humanitarian crisis. Thus far, attempts at a negotiated solution have failed.
This event is a collaboration between Department of Foreign Languages (Arabic), Department of Archaeology, History, Cultural Studies and Religion (AHKR) and Bergen Global.
Daniel Varisco is visiting scholar at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn, Germany. Varisco has published on the history of Orientalism, the anthropology of Islam, the history of Islamic agronomy and astronomy, agriculture and water rights in Yemen, and international development and the anthropology of cyberspace. He is the founding editor of CyberOrient, and web master of the blog Tabsir (source: wikipedia).
Eirik Hovden is a postdoctoral fellow at the Department of Foreign Languages (UiB).
