Health checks for work with ionising radiation

Main content

Employers must ensure that employees who will work in conditions where radiation from ionising radiation sources may lead to a dose of more than 6 mSv per year or an equivalent dose of more than 3/10 of the dose limit stated in the Regulations conserning the performance of work are given a health examination before they start such work. Employees who may be exposed to such a dose must have a health examination every 3 years, or more often if so advised by a doctor.

The purpose of the health examination is to decide whether there are any medical grounds to prevent the employee working with ionising radiation or whether any special measures are necessary.
