Project
Operative Treatment of Unstable Trochanteric Hip Fractures
Abstract
General objective
The primary objective of this project is to investigate if we can improve the preoperative diagnostics and operative treatment of unstable trochanteric hip fractures (FTFs). This thesis will contribute up to date knowledge on stability evaluation of FTFs (CT scan versus X-ray) and implementation of hip arthroplasty as primary treatment of unstable FTFs (RCT of hip arthroplasty versus IMNs). These results may have an impact on national and/or international guidelines regarding treatment of unstable FTFs.
Specific objectives
B – Retrospective analysis of treated unstable trochanteric fractures. Hip arthroplasty versus intramedullary nail at Stavanger University Hospital. What are their postoperative outcomes?
A – Preoperativ diagnostic improvements in care of trochanteric hip fracture patients. Outcomes from implementation of preoperative CT in trochanteric hip fractures?
B – Primary treatment with hip arthroplasty for unstable trochanteric fractures. Is there any advantages?
