Centre for Cancer Biomarkers (CCBIO) is one of two new Centers of Excellence at the Faculty of medicine and Dentistry, University of Bergen.

The center will be working on new cancer biomarkers and targeted therapy, and will particularly focus on mechanisms that show how cancer cells are affected by the microenvironment in the tumors, and what significance this has for cancer proliferation and poor prognosis.

Center manager is Lars A. Akslen, Department of Clinical Medicine.

The opening

CCBIO had its opening symposium May 30-31 2013. The symposium focused both on the center and its research fields and goals and featured highly renowned researchers as speakers, such as Bruce Zetter of Harvard Medical School, Mina Bissell of Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory and John Cairns of London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine.

CCBIO seminars

The seminar series at the Centre of Cancer Biomarkers (CCBIO) are meant to provide an overview and deeper insight into the research field of cancer biomarkers. Both members of CCBIO and invited speakers will hold talks during the seminar series.
