Passion for Ocean 2019

We thank everyone who visited our stand at the Passion for Ocean festival on Saturday! There was for sure a lot of interest for exploring deep sea rocks and living microorganisms.

The Passion for Ocean festival was organized for the first time in Bergen on August 31st. The K.G. Jebsen Centre for Deep Sea Research was of course part of the event. We displayed glow in the dark bacteria (since bioluminescence is quite common in the deep sea) and offered "make your own glowing bacteria art", which was especially popular with the little ones. Our rock exhibition contained a beautiful example of a big hydrothermal chimney from the Jan Mayen Vent field. We also brought manganese crusts and iron oxides and displayed footage from our deep sea ROV dives.

Stayed tuned and visit us at our next stand at the Neste steg concert in Grieghallen in December (https://nestesteg.w.uib.no/) or take a look at the upcoming deep sea exhibition at the University Museum!
