Granite formation related to island arc and ophiolite complexes on Bømlo

Project description

My project is based on geochemical and geochronological surveys of igneous type granites related to island arcs and ophiolite complexes on Bømlo, south of Bergen. The rocks are part of the upper allochthon in the Caledonian sheet series, emplaced when Laurentia (North America) and Baltica (Northern Europe) collided approximately 390-490 million years ago. I will during my thesis conduct absolute datings of zircon grains, together with geochemical analyses.
