An introduction to the Michael Sars Centre

The Michael Sars Centre is unique in the field of molecular biology. As a partner of the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) since 2003, the centre looks for answers to fundamental questions in animal physiology and evolution by focusing on marine invertebrate organisms.

Sars International Centre for Marine Molecular Biology

The Michael Sars Centre aims to address universally important biological questions, harnessing state-of-the-art technologies to leverage the unique advantages of marine and aquatic organisms.

New directions include a special focus on the interface between organismal biology and environmental sciences. The centre is poised to build on its partnerships with UiB and EMBL, to serve as a hub to develop and effect local, national and international networks connected by shared interests in Marine Life Sciences.

The centre uses a variety of mechanisms to develop scientific and academic activities at various organizational levels, mainly through research, academic exchange, and skill-oriented training and career development.
