Missing student found dead
UiB-student Ommund Veim Eikje (22) was thursday found dead in France.
The exchange student from the University of Bergen was in Avignon in France to study, and was reported missing by his family after they couldn't get in touch with him.
Thursday Eikje was found dead beneath the cliffs by the old, historic castle in the city, according to the news agency NTB.
– This is a popular location for taking pictures. Ommund must have fell off the cliffs. We have no reason to think this is anything but an accident, says Ove Eikje, spokesperson for the family to NTB.
Eikje was studying at The Department of Linguistic, Literary and Aesthetic Studies at the University of Bergen and was on an exchange programme in Avignon when his family reported him missing.
– It is with great grief we recieve the news that Ommund is dead. Our thoughts goes to his family and closest friends, rector Dag Rune Olsen says. – As a University we have lost a young student with his whole life in front of him. It will affect us and we will try to take care of his friends and colleagues at the University in a best possible way, says Olsen.
