Olsen voted new UiB rector
Professor Dag Rune Olsen will be the new rector at the University of Bergen from 1 August 2013.

With all the votes counted in the rector elections at the University of Bergen (UiB) on Wednesday 24 April, the Central Election Committee has announced that the current Dean at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Dag Rune Olsen, will be the new rector at UiB from the autumn semester 2013. The new rector will formally take on the post on 1 August.
The official count shows that Olsen and his team received 58.9 per cent of the votes.
Dag Rune Olsen’s team consists of Professor Anne Lise Fimreite as Pro-Rector, Professor Oddrun Samdal as Vice-Rector for education and Professor Anne Christine Johannessen as Vice-Rector for international relations.
Current Rector Sigmund Grønmo and his rectorate will remain in place until 1 August, at which point Professor Grønmo will have been UiB’s rector for a consecutive eight years. According to Norway’s Act relating to universities and university colleges of 2005, no one can be elected for longer than two election cycles of each four years.
