UiB among top 100 European universities
The University of Bergen (UiB) is ranked number 92 on Times Higher Education’s list of top 200 universities in Europe.
More than 800 research-intensive universities are each year judged across all their core missions: teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international outlook by Times Higher Education (THE). In March 2016, THE published their ranking of the top universities in Europe, where UiB is ranked as the 92. best university.
Excelling in research influence
Dag Rune Olsen, Rector of UiB, is happy for UiB and the result. He is especially encouraged by UiB’s ranking on citations, where the university is fourth best in the Nordic countries.
“Citations are as close as we get to measuring the quality and reach of our research,” Olsen says.
“There are only three universities ahead of us in the Nordic countries when it comes to citations: Karolinska Institutet, the University of Copenhagen and Stockholm University,” Olsen adds.
“In the last few years, UiB has worked hard to meet the increased international competition. We have and are developing several world class research environments,” says Olsen.
In general, Scandinavian universities do well on THE’s ranking. The University of Oslo is ranked as number 63, UiT The Arctic University of Norway is ranked between 181 to 190, and Norwegian University of Science and Technology as between 191 to 200.
The Universities of Oxford and Cambridge and Imperial College London make the top three in THE’s ranking of European universities.
