PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Sedimentary systems on exposed basement highs bordering an active rift basin are rarely preserved in the geological record. This project presents a case study of a proximal syn-rift sedimentary system that was preserved due to early transgression of a footwall high. The distribution and geometry of the syn-rift depositional system is investigated within a source to sink and normal fault array evolution context using well calibrated 3D seismic reflection data.

In general, this study contributes to the understanding of footwall-sourced sedimentary systems that develop on rift-related dip slopes during marine transgression.
