PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Seismic inversion, also called Amplitude Versus Offset (AVO) Inversion, is the process of estimating layer quantities from reflector quantities. However, mainly due to data quality, uncertainties in the estimated parameters exist and need to be properly assessed. Data assimilation methods can be applied to find a good approximation for the uncertainties in the models using inversion. The non-linear Zoeppritz equation can then be used and uncertainties are directly provided as an output of the inversion. A data assimilation method will be implemented and tested on synthetic data. Comparison with classical linearization will show the potential of the method.
