Islamic Religious Thought and Practice (This course is offered spring 2024)

The objective of the course is to provide students with an in-depth introduction to a selected topic of Islamic religious thought and practice. The selected topic for spring 2024 is “the prophet Muhammad”. The course offers an in-depth introduction to the multi-faceted characterization of the prophet Muhammad in Islamic as well as non-Islamic (Western) tradition from the end of late antiquity until the 21th century.

Special emphasis is also placed on reading and examining a selection of biographies of the prophet Muhammad in English translation.
