Profile: Øyvind Paasche is with the Bjerknes Centre for Climate Research and is an established scientist with over 20 years of national and international experience in geophysical and geological research within thematic areas such as climate, environmental magnetism, glacier reconstructions, paleohydrology, floods, permafrost, geomorphology and weathering. Paasche is also experienced in national and international research politics, building networks and instigating new projects, administration and collaborations across different scientific disciplines. Paasche has published nearly 40 studies in international peer-reviewed journals, numerous international scientific abstracts, co-edited a cross-disciplinary book about the New Arctic, co-authored a book on climate change and over 50 popularisation pieces for both national and international newspapers and other journals. Paasche has extensive field experience from areas such as Himalaya, the Swiss Alps, Greenland, Antarctica (South Georgia), Spitsbergen and numerous places in in Norway. A central part of this fieldwork includes coring of lakes and fjords, but also open ocean sites. Moreover, he has an intimate knowledge of a number of scientific instruments used for analysing rock magnetic properties, clay minerals, grain sizes and so forth. Paasche has both been the project manager and partner in several international research projects, including the ongoing Ocean Outlook (2016-2019, PI), Hordaflom (2017-2020, Pi), Advanced Climate Education and Research (2018-2020) and Seasonal Forcasting Engine (2016-2018). He has worked on four large EU-proposals and was a contributing author to the forth IPPC assessment (The Physical Science Basis) in 2007 as well as a secretary for chapter 6. Since 2018, he is the Chair for the Scientific Steering Committee for the international initiative known as Synoptic Arctic Survey. In 2021, Paasche became Head of Innovation at Climate Futures, a new research-driven centre funded by RCN.
