Norwegian Forest Oribatida (NFO) - highly diverse, but poorly known

Oribatid mites (Acari, Oribatida) are small arachnids, rarely exceeding body length of 1 mm, very abundant and diverse, in particular in the forests, where they play the significant role in decomposition of organic matter. 

The main objective of this project is to increase the knowledge about the diversity of the Oribatida in rare types of broadleaf forests in Norway, based on the novel samples and rich material stored at the University Museum of Bergen. Additionally, some other arthropod taxa associated with forest soil and wood will be also studied.
