I am foremost a painter, my interests lie at the intersection between painting, print, performance, language and moving image. My works are informed by histories and place whilst pertaining to the present with the immediacy of gesture and the locale of making being embedded in the surfaces I make. To relate this idea to Painting, post Art-school when the possibility of a studio was suspended at this point I looked to the beach as my studio. This liminal space between the land and the sea is where I developed a painting process, which I have title Sea Painting (2009 – ongoing). Within my practice I am seeking to capture a painted language, a fabric, which I believe, reflects my vision of the world and also creates a space for reflection. I believe in being able to adapt and shift the materials we use and make to allow for the development of everchanging meaning. I believe in communication through form, language and movement to explore in particular landscape and identity - often those of women whom have been overlooked, appropriated or simply forgotten.
