Ongoing PhD project (October 2023-2026) on "Killer Acquisitions" in EU Competition Law

Lecture on the "Foreign Subsidies Regulation" (EU/EEA State Aid Law, JUS2302&JUS3502), Spring 2024.

I am available and would be happy to supervise master students writing on issues related to competition law in general and especially about merger control, foreign subsidies and the interaction between competition, subventions & trade (for example between merger control and the different trade defence instruments for example with regard to national and EU security strategy).

Joséphine Thorson is a research fellow at the Law Faculty of the University of Bergen, where she is affiliated with the Bergen Center for Competition Law and Economics (BECCLE). Joséphine’s main research interests are within merger control and her current research project deals with killer acquisitions in EU competition law. Joséphine holds a Master’s degree in European business law from the University of Paris Panthéon-Assas. Before joining BECCLE, she was at the General Directorate for Competition Policy, Consumer Affairs and Fraud Control (“DGCCRF”) of the French Ministry of Economics, Finance and Industrial and Digital Sovereignty. At the Office of Competition Law and Policy, she gained considerable experience in matters of antitrust, especially in the energy and digital sectors, as well as in merger control, in a number of industries. She also worked with international and particularly European cooperation in competition law and policy and engaged in EU lawmaking, inter alia on foreign subsidies.
