Kate Madsen is coordinator for the bachelor’s programme at the Department of Design. Since 2007, she has been an assistant professor in drawing at the Department of Design, KHiB. Madsen has from 1988, been working as an art teacher at various educational institutions, including subjects such as drawing, painting, graphics and digital media design.

Kate Madsen has a Diploma in graphics/intaglio printing from the National College of Art and Design, Bergen, Dept. of Graphic Design and Illustration (5 years). She has a visual arts degree from the West Norway Academy of Art (Vestlandets Kunstakademi, 4 years), in addition to a Practical Pedagogical Education for vocational teachers (PPU, 1 year) from Bergen University College. Kate Madsen has participated in many exhibitions, including the Western Norway Exhibition (Vestlandsutstillingen), the National Autumn Exhibition in Oslo (Høstutstillingen). 

Madsen’s artistic research focuses on visualisation, processes, techniques and methods. How does choice of technique affect the content and expression of images? How can the use of different creative methods generate flow and context in the process? Madsen’s fields of specialty are design methods/idea development, digital media, drawing and different kinds of visual expressions.
