Research field

My PhD-project consists of a comparison of the education reforms in Norway and Germany during the 1960s and 1970s, with a focus on the reforms targeting age group 11-16. The overarching research question is why the abolition of school tiers and tracking and the connected reforms of curricula were effectively carried through in Norway, while comparable reforms in Germany ended up being rather limited in scope. For Germany, I focus on the most populated federal state North Rhine-Westphalia. In my thesis, I analyze debates and power struggles around the reforms, focusing on collective actors such as political parties and teachers' organizations, their material power resources, ideology, coalitions and conflicts.  I have defended my thesis on June 18, 2018. The title is "Cleavages and Coalitions. Comprehensive School Reforms in Norway and North Rhine-Westphalia/Germany (1954-1979)".

My master thesis was a historical-sociological comparison of the Norwegian and Swedish labor unions' strategies regarding worker participation at the work place and the organization of white-collar workers, with a main focus on the time periods after WWI and WWII and the 1960s/1970s.

My general research fields are comparative-historical sociology, sociology of labor unions, sociology of education and education politics. I have also done comparative-historical research on prostitution politics.
