My PhD project looks at the historical and contemporary connections between the mining sector in South Africa and the finance sector in the City of London. I´m particularly interested in how the early days of mining in South Africa from the 1870s impacted upon the country´s political and economic structures and integration into the world economy, and how some of these structures still reverberate today.
