My research interests focus around fish patho-physiology.  In particular the effects of gill and cardiac diseases on fish function and physiology. 

 

1.  Amoebic Gill Diseaase  that affects Atlantic salmon and the host-pathogen interactions that occur and are influenced by environment and other external biological factors. The control of disease through understanding infection dynamics, use of clinical nutrition and therapeutics form part of an intergrated approach to managine the impact of this disease in Norwegian salmon aquaculture.

2.  Cardiac diseases such as HSMI,  CMS and PD are of interest in terms of how or if they impart a limit in physiological performance.     

3.  Tissue remodelling in fishes:  Fish tissues (gills and hearts) have a high capacity to change their tissue structure in response to disease insults resulting in tissue growth (hypertrophy and hyperplasia) which subsequently can affect physiological improvements or imepdiments.  How these processes are controlled is particularly interesting.
