I am an ecologist trained in management and restoration of semi-natural habitats. My work revolving around the human-nature interaction in European cultural landscapes, I have grown towards a more holistic approach of research in ecology. As such, improving scientific communication to the public and local governance is one of my main concerns. I am particularly attached to coastal heathlands, both by their natural and cultural values. My research interest lies on community responses to environmental gradients and changes in human management. I started as a plant ecologist, but my focus has moved towards arthropod assemblages and I recently gained interest into soil diversity.
In my current PhD project I investigate how small-scale farming in the Nordhordland UNESCO Biosphere Reserve (Western Norway) shape the biodiversity and the functionality of grazing systems. I explore the interactions of environmental and human-driven pressures in a fjord landscape, the trade-offs between ecosystem functions and services at different productivity levels, and the response to rotational burning in traditionally managed coastal heathland.
