My research focuses on improving our understanding of past changes in properties and intensity of Nordic Seas overflows and their relationship to climate and surface ocean hydrography on decadal-centennial timescales during warm and warmer-than-present climate states. I work with an array of proxy methodologies including stable isotopes (planktonic and benthic d18O and d13C), ice-rafted debris (IRD) counts, tephra counts, foraminiferal assemblages, sea surface temperature reconstructions using both the Mg/Ca paleothermomery and transfer function techniques (e.g., MAT), applied on a variety of IMAGES, Ocean Drilling Program (ODP) and International Ocean Discovery Program (IODP) cores, particularly from the North Atlantic sedimentary drift sites (e.g., Eirik and Gardar Drifts).
