My project marries two very important trends within contemporary Beckett studies: namely, the documentary focus on his intellectual sources, and the genetic study of his manuscripts, which is about to be improved dramatically through the Samuel Beckett Digital Manuscript Project (BDMP) Project. More specifically, my own research on Beckett’s psychoanalytic sources will be building on previous work that gives every reason to assume a substantial use of psychoanalytic sources by Beckett in his writing process. The principal focus of my PhD thesis, therefore, will be a genetic study of the Plays, Krapp’s Last Tape and Endgame, and the novel Molloy. In addition to their clear chronological and thematic links to the ‘Psychology Notes’, my reason for focusing on these texts is that the hitherto unpublished manuscripts for Krapp's Last Tape and Molloy are now made available, and the module for Endgame is coming out in spring 2018.
