Vegetation history of Norway's mountains

Main content

Post-Ice Age (Holocene) vegetation and climate in southern Norway's mountains

A number of important questions need answering to test / validate climate models and their historic scenarios:

- How soon does vegetation respond to climatechange?

- Did the Holocene thermal maximum occur at the beginning or in the middle of the Holocene? Can pollen analysis determine when the highest temperatures
was reached after the ice age?

- Will the current vegetation react to the recent warming in the same way as the previous vegetation responded to Holocene warming?

Vegetation and climate during and after glaciation at Dovre, central Norway

Evidence indicates that mountainous Noway's ice-free history can be extended 6000-7000 years back in time! Fossil trees can indicate palaoe tree-lines and give us clues about the climate. Please join us in investigating this unknown landscape.
