John Birks has been elected a Corresponding Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh (RSE). Corresponding Fellows are the equivalent of Foreign Fellows in the Royal Society of London and Foreign Members in the Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters.

The RSE is an independent, non-political body that aims to provide public benefit throughout Scotland by drawing on the expertise of its Fellows. It focuses on Fellows’ activities in Scottish sectors ranging from the arts, business, science and technology, and academia. John has long-standing links with Scotland. He did his PhD on The Late‑Weichselian and Present Vegetation of the Isle of Skye and has subsequently continued with many other projects in Scotland on floristics, documentation of vegetation, and vegetational history, up to the present day.

Congratulations!
