Geo2Int: Geometry and Geometric Integration, Bergen, Norway, 2022

The workshop

The objective of the workshop is to connect people working in differential geometry from a more theoretical perspective with people working with geometric integration and applications of geometry for numerical methods. We believe that this intersection of ideas will be fruitful for people working in both areas and can lead to new developments. Topics of the conference will be intersections of geometry and algebra, stochastic differential geometry, geometric statistics, geometric numerical integration and numerical solutions of SPDEs.

The workshop will be held in Bergen on September 7-9, 2022, and an online broadcast will be made available to registered participants.

This workshop is supported by the Trond Mohn Foundation through the project "Pure Mathematics in Norway", and by the local research projects CODYSMA and Geoproco.

There will be 3 main speaker giving lecture series; Svitlana Mayboroda (Minnesota), Davide Vittone (Padua) and Robert Young (New York). For other speakers and further details, see the coference home page.

Seminar Sophus Lie, Nordjordeid, Norway, 2022

Seminar Sophus Lie (SSL-2022) will meet on 12-19 June 2022 at Nordfjordeid, Norway. This seminar was founded in 1990 in Germany and has had regular meetings since then on the topics of Lie theory, with creation of the Journal of Lie Theory as one of the notable outputs. This year’s meeting is a result of joint efforts of German and Norwegian mathematicians to honour the legacy of Sophus Lie and the modern development of his theory.

The aim of this workshop is to bring together, in a casual and friendly atmosphere, mathematicians working on all areas of analysis, geometry, algebra and mathematical physics, which are related in a broad sense to Sophus Lie’s work. Traditionally these meetings centre on applications of representation theory and advances in Lie theory.

This is the first meeting of SSL in Norway, at the birthplace of Sophus Lie. The atmosphere of the Conference Center will allow for informal discussions, collaborations and initiations of new research projects. Several grants will be allocated to cover local expenses, and we encourage young mathematicians as well as female mathematicians to apply. Please check out the webpage for more details.

We are interested in Riemannian, sub-Riemannian and conformal geometry, their Lorentzian and other signatures analogs, infinite-dimensional manifolds, first of  all, the shape space and shape signatures understood from various viewpoints, from fingerprints and geometric invariants of shapes to computational aspects of vision theory. The goal is to expand and deepen our understanding of interrelations between differential geometry and vision theory. This workshop is aimed to build the national Norwegian team in geometry and its applications, with the strong international profile and cooperation with experts in the related fields of algebra, analysis and differential equations.
