Work on biological factors

Notification to the The Norwegian Labour Inspection Authority on work on biological factors

One month before start-up, a report must be sent to the The Norwegian Labour Inspection Authority on work on biological factors

This must be signed by the head of the Animal Department and the safety representative.

For the Animal Facility, this is purely typical when we work with eg tuberculosis bacteria. This should be sent to the Regional Labor Office's regional office, in our case to the The Norwegian Labour Inspection Authority, PO Box 44, 5803 Bergen.

Tuberculin test.

Before working with tuberculosis bacteria, everyone who participates in projects or has their workplace in the same building must determine the status of their tuberculosis vaccine. This can be done by blood test at Tubekulosis coordinator at Haukeland University Hospital, tel 55 97 40 74.

Routines work on biological factors

There are specific routines related to working with biological factors or other substances that require special treatment, such as cytostatics, tissue implants, carcinogenic substances.

These are substances that we must spread to other parts of the animal facility.

This involves forms of containment measures, either in separate rooms, or in closed cages (IVC).

This also applies to animals with uncertain infection status.

This entails own clothing, waste treatment and cleaning routines for clothes, rooms and equipment.

Users with animals such as this should expect to pay extra for the animal room, infection supplement and any IVC price. See price list.
