Turbidites and turbiditic systems

Outcrop studies combined with analysis of subsurface 3D seismic data and numerical CFD simulations, aimed to improve our understanding of turbiditic systems and their deposits

Turbidites are deep-water deposits of subaqueous sediment-gravity flows known as turbidity currents. Many ancient turbiditic successions worldwide are important petroleum reservoirs. This series of sedimentological research projects combines outcrop studies, analysis of subsurface 3D seismic data and numerical CFD simulations, with an aim to improve our understanding of turbiditic systems and their deposits. The focus is on the development and infill architecture of turbiditic channels and on the distal pinch-out characteristics of turbiditic depositional systems. Case studies are carried out in Turkey, Italy and New Zealand.
