Geothermal energy

Main content

Geothermal energy research focuses on understanding the relation between reactive fluid and heat transport, deformation (compaction and hydro-fracturing), and chemistry in geothermal applications.

Geothermal energy research provides a recent new focus for Geodynamics group. Active participation in the new Geothermal Energy Research Centre at UiB (www.cger.no) has led to several funded activities that aim to understand the relation between reactive fluid and heat transport, deformation (compaction and hydro-fracturing), and chemistry in geothermal applications. Seismic hazard associated with induced seismicity during geothermal energy exploration provides another research topic of interest.
