Advanced Course in Qualitative Research in Public and Global Health – From Conceptualization to Write-up

The course is targeted students who work with qualitative research within public and global health research and are in the process of developing a qualitative PhD study, collecting data or have already collected data. Students should preferable have prior experience with basic qualitative research.

This PhD course aims to provide PhD students with a solid background for managing the different stages and the progression of qualitative studies from idea (research questions) to analysis and write-up. Participants are guided on how to strengthen the methodological, theoretical and analytical approach of their research through discussions with lecturers, other course participants and homework. Lectures and student preparation and exercises will focus on conceptualization, methodological, theoretical and analytical perspectives central to qualitative research with specific focus on international and global health challenges. Particularly important are the workshop sessions in which we focus specifically on each student’s project.
