Novel treatment strategies for chemotherapy-resistant endometrial cancers

About half of endometrial cancer patients respond poorly to standard chemotherapy treatment and few alternative treatment options are available.

By utilizing different library-based genetic tools, we will turn off and/or on genes in patient-derived 3D model systems to investigate how different genes impact chemotherapy response. This will give us knowledge on which specific genes control resistance, which in turn will inform us on the type of treatment which can be combined with chemotherapy to overcome resistance and improve treatment effect.

Chemotherapy resistance refers to the ability of cancer cells to successfully survive the treatments aimed to kill them, by either their own genetic predisposition or by gradually adapting to the anti-cancer drugs.
