Social Factors in Software Development

Processes for software development are to a large extend shaped by the technologies and tools that are available to the developers. But just as important is how the work is organised, and how the developers and other stakeholders influence each other and collaborate.

The projet studies how software developers are helped og inhibited in their work by factors realted to social features, including organisation, collaboration and communication, knowledge, motivation, empowerment, and others. We are mainly using qualitative methods in oue empirical research, but also quantitative methods and desig science. Data are often collected from professional developer organistaions to understand these phenomena.

The project's permanently employed members are Professor Bjørnar Tessem and Associate Professor Solveig Bjørnestad.
